Excerpt from An Oration, Pronounced at New Haven: By Request of the Common Council, August 19, 1834, in Commemoration of the Life and Services of General Lafayette Dear Sir - I have the pleasure of communicating to you the following resolutions: - "At a court of Common Council of the city of New Haven, held on the 2d day of Sept. 1831 - "Voted, That this court tender their acknowledgments to James A. Hill-house, Esq., for the eloquent Address delivered by him in commemoration of the life and services of Gen. Lafayette, on the day before Commencement, by appointment of this board. "Voted, That the Mayor be a committee to request from him a copy of the Address, for publication. "Voted, That the committee who were appointed to address the family of Gen. Lafayette in behalf of the city authorities, be requested to transmit to them, in the name of the Common Council, copies of Mr. Hillhouse's Address, when published. Certified by Elisha Munson, City Clerk." Allow me to add my individual solicitation, that your Address be given to the public. By appointment of the Phi Beta Kappa, we have the honor to offer to you, in their behalf, the thanks of the Society for your Oration of the 19th inst., and to request a copy for publication.
