Excerpt from By-Laws and Ordinances of the Town of New-Bedford: With Certain Municipal Regulations of Police No person shall project any step in front of his or her house, or other building or lot of land into any street, lane, alley, public square or place in the town, or suffer any steps so projected to remain more than one foot from the front of said house or building or lot of land. Nor shall any person construct, raise or continue any cellar-door platform above the even surface of the side-walk, under a penalty for either offence of the sum of two dollars - and a further penalty of two dollars for each and every Week that said step or platform shall he suffered to remain so projected or raised, after an order for the remo val thereof, by the Street Committee of said town.
