Excerpt from Catalog of the Fine Collection of the Gold, Silver and Copper Coins of the United States of Major Richard Lambert of New Orleans: Including a Series of English Crowns, To Which Is Added the War Medals of the Jewett Collection, Including the Rare George III Indian Medal, and a Small Collection of CoinsAs the term of years of a long life lengthen out uh der the favor of Providence, to a span surpassing that usually allotted to the life of man, men feel that they must relinquish many of their former pursuits, and have a desire to conclude as much as possible their affairs. It is this motive that has induced Major Richard Lam bert to place his collection in my hands for sale at auc tion.Major Lambert was born in the city of Dublin in 1828, and came to America while still a lad, and has re sided in the city of New Orleans for the past 65 years. He served with distinction in the Mexican War, 1846-48, and has been for 50 years a member of the Masonic Order, in which he has been highly honored, reaching the 33d degree, the highest degree in Masonry, and has been Assistant and Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana for 35 years. Though bearing such a num ber of years, now over 82, he is still blessed with hale and vigorous health, and retains his active interest in Masonic affairs.Major Lambert has devoted his attention to the coins of the United States, of which he has acquired a fine representative series of the gold, silver and cop per denominations, and has also obtained a representa tive series of English crowns, from Edward VI to Vie toria, which with three Massachusetts shillings, one the extremely rare Willow Tree variety, I have placed after the regular United States series.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
