Excerpt from Investigation of Communist Activities in the San Francisco Area, Vol. 5: Hearing Before the Committee on Un-American Activities, House of Representatives, Eighty-Third Congress, First Session, December 5, 1953 Mr. Tavenner. Will counsel please identify himself for the record? Mr. Speiser. Lawrence Speiser, staff counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California, 503 Market Street, San Francisco. Mr. Tavenner. Mr. Chairman, I introduced in evidence Hudson Exhibit No. 1 during the testimony of. Roy Hudson. This exhibit is a letter from Earl Browder, general secretary of the Communist Party, under date of November 27, 1939, addressed to the counsel of the Committee on un-american Activities, enclosing a list of the national committee of the Communist Party, as elected at the tenth convention. When I referred to that document at the time of its introduction in evidence, I read into the record the names of those who were on this committee. One of them was Harrison George.
