Excerpt from Journal of the Senate of the State of Michigan: At the Annual Session of the Legislature for 1839
On motion of Mr. Curtis, Clark Butler, of Monroe, was ar pointed door keeper.
On motion of Mr. Kercheval, the president was authorized to appoint two boys as messengers, at a per diem compensation not to exceed one dollar. Whereupon, Orlando Wilcox and Henry Glitz were appointed said messengers.
