Excerpt from Men of Science and Industry: A Guide to the Biographies of Scientists, Engineers, Inventors and Physicians, in the Carnegie Library of PittsburghAlthough the material relating to the lives of scientists and engineers is considerable in quantity, it is widely scattered and difficult of access. This condition was recognized many years ago by the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Education, which appointed a committee of investigation, but as yet no feasible plan for a uniform editing of the material has been found.
