Jun Fujita - Poems in Exile & Other Verses Public Domain Press 'Poems in Exile & Other Verses' is a reprint of Jun Fujita's 1923 collection, 'Tanka: Poems In Exile', including a selection of earlier verses, written between 1919 and 1923, never before anthologised. New edition designed, edited, and selected by Dick Whyte. Fujita was born in Japan, moved to Canada as a teen, and settled in Chicago, America. While Fujita is best remembered for his photojournalism - for which he achieved national recognition - he was also one of the earliest English-language poets to publish a standalone collection of American tanka and haiku. This volume includes the entirety of 'Poems in Exile', Fujita's magnificent 30 poem sequence - containing 29 tanka (in 4-line form) and 1 haiku, arranged by the seasons - alongside numerous other poems written around the same time, and some earlier verses, culled from various "little magazines" and poetry journals from the 1910s and 1920s. Public Domain Press is dedicated to producing contemporary editions of out-of-print poets and poetry collections, particularly with regard to ultra-short, fragmented, and compressed "free" verse from the 1800s and early-1900s. All poems start as facsimiles - to preserve the original fonts - which are then cleaned up, edited for consistency, and spaciously laid-out, adorned with borders, illustrations, and ornaments from the books and magazines they originally appeared in. These are not "reprints" of previously existing books, but newly crafted collections, lovingly edited from public domain material, for the serious poetry lover.
