Justin mccarthy was born at Cork in 1830, and we, who knew him in his placid and gentle man-like maturity, always delighted in the recollection that he had begun life as a rebel. At eighteen, he was one of the men of '48, and was only precluded by his tender years from attaining immortality in Thackeray's ballad of the Battle of Limerick.
