Excerpt from Southern Medical Journal, Vol. 7: May, 1914A great deal has been written on the subject of malaria in the United States, and yet there is lacking a summary study of the prevalence and geographic distribution Of the disease.This work was undertaken by the United States Public Health Service, and on February 28, 1912, I was detailed by the Surgeon - Gen era] of the United States Public Health Serv ice to make a study of the disease in the state of Alabama. On july 8, 1913, the work was extended to include the states of Arkansas.
