Excerpt from Study of Alternatives: Chicago's Navy PierThe National Park Service, at the request of Congress, has prepared a study of the city of Chicago's Navy Pier. The study finds that Navy Pier is a regionally significant historic property, based on its historical impact on a multistate region, however, the pier does not meet the prescribed criteria for national significance as a historic site. Similarly, the pier does not currently meet the prescribed criteria for a national recreation area.
