Excerpt from The Bonnifield Region AlaskaAlong its northern border the Tanana lowland ends abruptly, giving place to a belt of foothills which stretches southward 15 or 20 miles beyond the ¿ats, where it in turn gives place to the higher mountains. The foothills consist of minor east-west ranges, which lie parallel to the main range and which have for the most part rounded summits and long, smooth, connecting ridges, ranging in elevation from to feet, although here and there hills with somewhat sharper peaks rise to heights of or feet.
