August 20, 1759, appeared in Saur' s publish ing house the first German paper ever printed In America. It contained four pages, in size 9x13° the title of the publication (in English) being. The High German, Pennsylvanian Historian, Or a collection of important, events in nature and church. In his editorial he mentions that he did not propose to publish a newspaper in the common acceptation of the term, but, rather a collection of facts that might tend to better hu manity.
