Betty ran back to her room. She gave her long, glistening hair several hard strokes with a brush and grabbing her tie and a bunch of hair pins she at last started on her way to breakfast, knotting her hair as she went. The doors were closing, but she slipped under Miss Mary's arm and, gasping for breath, she made her way to her table and ¿opped, breathless, into her chair.
