The Impact of Controlled-Mobility Helper Nodes on the Performance of Challenged Networks

Angebote / Angebote:

Node mobility in traditional wireless networks is regarded as undesired and harmful to the network's performance. In the new domain of delay and disruption tolerant networks (DTN), however, mobility is seen as positive and sometimes even necessary for data exchange, especially when the mobility of a node can be controlled arbitrarily. In this case the network's topology can be changed for optimal performance, instead of trying to deliver data over an existing, but inadequate network layout. Controlled mobility of wireless nodes in delay tolerant networks enables new modes of communication on a single link as well as between any two nodes in a wireless network. In this dissertation we create models for these new communication modes, namely Relaying and Ferrying communication, and optimize each communication mode's performance in terms of throughput and packet delay.
