Excerpt from The Mission Field We have taken measures to have The Mission Field in the hands of our subscribers before the first of the month. A new printer has been secured and the contract with him will require all matter to be in his hands by the tenth, and the magazine will be ready for mailing by the twenty-fourth of each month Five persons, three women and two men, have offered themselves to the foreign mission work since Synod met in June. The Board has said "No" to them all. Yet, the workers on the field are sending continually for reinforcements. With the field and volunteers waiting, why should the Church not provide the means? It might embarrass Christ's people to give a satisfactory answer if the Master should ask, "Why do you not send my chosen servants into my Harvest-field?" We think that our readers will find this number full of instructive and interesting reading. Dr. Storrs' eloquent words on "The Future of Missions" are part of his address at the American Board Meeting in Cleveland. "The Three-fold Look in the Missionary Concert department, covers the work of the year in the Missionary world. The monthly concert need not be dull with such a complete review to guide thought and prayer. We welcome to our pages, Mrs. Sangster, so well-known to our readers. We are sure that her article "Our Share, " will stimulate our ladies to help in the work of Home Missions. The Secretaries have all provided a rich feast of facts from the fields which they represent. The annual survey of our Foreign Missions ought to rouse, and the tender memorial of Dr. Hekhuis ought to touch every reader. Brother Chapin's article in the Department of Education, is worthy of careful and considerate attention. We believe that the January number is but a sample of what our subscribers may expect during the year 1889. By the time that this number reaches our readers, Christmas day will be over. What joy we found in giving t our loved ones the gifts upon which we had spent our time and thought and love! Shall we treat our own loved ones better than the Master who said: "He that loveth father or mother more than Me, is not worthy of Me, and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me, is not worthy of Me?" What gift is more pleasing to the Master than the extension on the earth of that Kingdom for which He died?
