Excerpt from To Karl Theodor GermanThese sonnets, now presented in an English trans lation for the first time, * were written at Erlangen in the early months of 1826, and are thus of slightly later date than the two cycles which I have previously translated.l' Platen first saw German, who was a theological student from the Bavarian Palatinate, in November, 1825, and first spoke to him at a ball in January, 1826.
